The Colorado Avalanche have signed former Ottawa Senators defenseman Matt Carkner. Details to follow….
UPDATE: The Avalanche officially reported they’d signed Carkner, but his agent said there’s currently no deal in place yet. I’ll keep following this and provide updates as they happen.
TSN now reports Carkner is being signed by the Islanders to a three year contract. Avalanche had officially tweeted they’d signed Carkner.
It’s now official, the Islanders have signed Carkner to a three-year, $4.5 million contract, or an average cap hit of $1.5 million per, over double the $700K per season he made on his previous deal. A considerable raise for a player like Carkner, but the Islanders wanted his experience and grit, plus they also have some cap space to use up to meet the cap floor of $54.2 million for next season.
