The Vancouver Canucks announced the re-signing of winger Alex Burrows to a four-year, $18 million contract extension. Burrows was eligible for UFA status next summer, and his new deal is worth an average annual salary of $4.5 million.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: So much for the theory Burrows wouldn’t be re-signed before this CBA expired. Burrows’ agent suggested his client was comparable to Chicago’s Patrick Sharp, but this deal is worth considerably less than the five-year, $29.5 million he’s getting. Evidently Burrows feels he’s not going to get much better than that under a new CBA. It’s a significant raise above the $2.5 million he’ll earn in the final season of his current contract.
