UFA right wing Shane Doan’s agent claimed his client would be under contract before this CBA expires Saturday night. Could he be signed today? And will it be with the Coyotes?

Doan’s free agent saga coming to an end.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Sarah McLellan reports Shane Doan has a deal in principle with the Phoenix Coyotes, reportedly contingent upon the sale of the team to prospective buyer Greg Jamison, which has been hampered by the city of Glendale’s efforts to rework the arena lease agreement. It is hoped a deal could be in place by the end of this week.

TORONTO SUN: cited a report from a Phoenix radio station claiming Doan will make his decision today, and it is down to the Coyotes or the Vancouver Canucks. The report claims Doan will sign a contract prior to 5 pm ET today.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The reason is the deadline for filing contracts  before the current CBA expires is 5 pm ET Saturday, so in order to ensure the deal is processed on time, they must be submitted 24 hours prior. One way or the other, it appears the Doan saga ends today. Should be interesting to see if he does the expected (signs with the Coyotes) or the surprising (Canucks).
