NEW YORK POST: Rangers winger Rick Nash flew from Zurich to New York yesterday for an examination of a nagging groin injury by the Rangers medical staff. Nash has been spending the lockout playing for HC Davos in Switzerland.
DENVER POST: Colorado Avalanche center Ryan O’Reilly signed a two-year contract with Mettalurg Magnotigorsk of the KHL. Though signing a two-year contract was unusual (other locked out NHLers have signed one-year deals), his agent noted the deal had an “out-clause” should the NHL return to action this season.
KHL.RU: Pekka Rinne’s KHL struggles continue, giving up six goals on 15 shots as Dinamo Minsk fell 7-2 to Barys Astana.
NATIONAL LEAGUE: Joe Thornton had a three-point night (1 goal, 2 assists) and Loui Eriksson scored as HC Davos crushed HC Lugano 8-1. Patrice Bergeron scored Lugano’s sole goal.
Tyler Seguin’s offensive tear in Switzerland continued, scoring a goal as EHC Biel doubled up Rapperswil-Jano Lakers 6-3. Jason Spezza scored one of the Lakers 3 goals.
HOKEJ.CZ: Ales Hemsky had three assists and David Krejci a goal and an assist as HC Pardubice defeated Skoda Plzen HC 3-1.
Tomas Plekanec’s two goals and Jaromir Jagr’s tally weren’t enough for the Knights of Kladno, who were edged by HC Vitkovice Steel 4-3.
