CALGARY HERALD: The Flames introduced Mark Giordano as their new captain, with Curtis Glencross and Mike Cammalleri serving as alternates.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not a shocking choice. Giordano isn’t a big star and franchise player like his predecessor Jarome Iginla, but he is well-respected by his teammates.

TORONTO STAR: Training camp invitee Mason Raymond is clicking with Maple Leafs center Dave Bolland, fueling speculation the club could offer him a contract. Raymond claims, to his knowledge, there’s been no talks between the club and his agent.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The rumblings persist claiming Raymond will get a one-year contract from the Leafs. More on this later this morning in my Rumors section.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Small (5-9, 170 lbs) but tenacious forward J.G. Pageau continues to turn heads with his energetic, “old school” style of play.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Pageau’s tenacity and work ethic should help him earn a regular roster spot.
