THE TENNESSEAN: Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne was all smiles following his first preseason game since his off-season hip surgery, making 13 saves in two periods as the Predators blanked the NY Islanders 2-0.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A promising start for Rinne, who also shook off an early collision with Islanders forward Peter Regin. The Predators playoff hopes this season rest on a healthy Rinne.

DENVER POST: Semyon Varlamov made 37 saves as the Colorado Avalanche nipped the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.

CSNPHILLY.COM: Flyers center Brayden Schenn is unconcerned over his contract status. Schenn is slated to become a restricted free agent next summer.
