The Florida Panthers today announced the signing of goaltender Tim Thomas to a one-year, bonus-laden contract.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The deal is worth a base salary of $2.5 million, but with the bonuses could reach $3.75 million. It also includes a no-movement clause.
Thomas, 39, accepted a training camp invitation from the Panthers and apparently impressed them enough to earn a one-year deal. It now remains to be seen if he can regain the form which made him a two-time Vezina winner and 2011 playoff MVP with the Boston Bruins.
For now, the club will carry Thomas, promising Jacob Markstrom and backup Scott Clemmensen, who is expected to return to action soon following recent arthroscopic knee surgery.
