Other than parting ways with Martin Havlat, Dan Boyle and Brad Stuart, little change actually took place. The Sharks will be worth following closely as this season unfolds.
THE TAMPA TRIBUNE: Steven Stamkos insists he accidentally favorited a tweet earlier this summer speculating he might do a LeBron James move and sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs, his hometown team. Stamkos claims he has no plans of bolting the Lightning and wants to win in Tampa Bay. Speaking of the Lightning, their arena name has changed to Amalie Arena.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Lightning will open the vault to keep Stamkos in Tampa Bay. Should they continue their recent improvement Stamkos will have more incentive to stay.
DETROIT FREE PRESS: Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg hopes to remain healthy this season. A back injury sidelined him late last season.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: A healthy Zetterberg will improve the Red Wings chances of clinching a playoff berth this season.
THE DENVER POST: The Colorado Avalanche re-signed defenseman Tyson Barrie to a two-year, $5.2 million contract.
