Does Sidney Crosby need new linemates? How is Michael Nylander doing in the minors? Read on for the details.
SPORTSNET.CA: Mike Brophy recently reported Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby's low placement amongst this season's offensive leaders is due to a lack of quality linemates. Brophy noted Crosby hasn't complained about his situation which has gone almost unnoticed by the Penguins strong start. Don't expect GM Ray Shero to do anything about it for the time being given the Pens are bumping against the salary cap ceiling. The earliest he could address the situation might be by the trade deadline in March.SPECTOR'S NOTE: As long as the Penguins are playing well Crosby's lower-than-usual production won't be a significant issue. Given that Shero has made bold moves at the last two trade deadlines to address roster needs heading into the playoffs he could indeed do so again next March, although limited cap space will still make it difficult.
WASHINGTON POST: Tarik El-Bashir reports Michael Nylander has five assists in three games with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins which could bolster his stock in the eyes of those KHL teams rumored to be interested in him.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: This is probably Nylander's best shot at attracting sufficient attention from KHL teams if he hopes to play this season as his performance won't be enough to entice NHL teams into taking a chance on him.
NHL.COM: The Carolina Hurricanes yesterday placed veteran forward Stephane Yelle on waivers.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Hat tip to Nyrphan18". He's expected to clear waivers at noon ET today.
