Are the Blackhawks interested in Kaberle? Are the Rangers scouting Forsberg? Read on to find out!
TORONTO SUN/CHICAGO DAILY HERALD: report of speculation the Chicago Blackhawks were talking to the Toronto Maple Leafs about a possible trade of defenseman Tomas Kaberle. Agent Rick Curran, who represents Kaberle, said he hasn't been approached at all about his client waiving his "no-trade" clause while Leafs GM Brian Burke claimed there was no truth to the rumor.SPECTOR'S NOTE: The basis for the "Kaberle to Blackhawks" rumor is the 'Hawks are pressed for cap space next season to re-sign Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith, hence it's believed they'll move forwards like Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg by the trade deadline to free up cap space. I've suggested in the past the Blackhawks will have to dump salary if they want to re-sign those key three RFA players, but they don't have to do it during this season. They can wait until the off-season to dump salary so for now they have no reason to do so and they might not have any reason to do so by the trade deadline.
NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports Rangers GM Glen Sather admitted being very interested in Peter Forsberg's comeback attempt and is actively scouting Forsberg's performance at the Karjala Cup. The questions are if Forsberg is healthy enough for an NHL comeback and if he has interest in playing for the Rangers. Sather said money would also be an issue. It's believed the Flyers, Capitals, Canadiens and Avalanche are interested in Forsberg.
PHILLY.COM: Frank Seravalli reports Flyers GM Paul Holmgren denied interest in Forsberg or Brendan Shanahan.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: It's currently unknown if the Capitals, Canadiens and Avalanche are scouting Forsberg as so far only the Rangers have admitted interest.
