Latest News

Deadline on Kovalchuk Contract Moved to September 3rd.

Various sources today report the NHL and NHLPA have agreed to move the deadline for the league's decision on the latest contract proposal from the New Jersey Devils for Ilya Kovalchuk to 5 PM ET on Friday, September 3rd.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: While I know a lot of hockey fans are annoyed by how long this has taken the good news is that the league didn't reject the deal outright again, and are working with the NHLPA toward finding a solution. It'll have to be done by this Friday however as the KHL's season starts next Wednesday (according to Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports) and Kovalchuk will need to know before then

Report: Niemi to Sign with Sharks.

SPORTSNET's Nick Kypreos reports via Twitter a West Coast source confirmed to him former Chicago Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi will sign with the San Jose Sharks, possibly as early as tomorrow (September 2) on a one-year, $2 million base contract.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: It's been rumored for weeks since Niemi hit the market he might sign with the Sharks. Hopefully there will have more information either later today or tomorrow.
