SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bouchard and Regin are on one-year contracts. The Islanders have reportedly agreed to pick up half of Bouchard’s remaining contract. He’s earning $2 million this season. The Blackhawks were in the market for depth at forward, particularly at center.  Bouchard can play all three forward positions and Regin is a checking line left wing.

Bouchard’s spent a good portion of this season with the Islanders AHL affiliate. His lengthy injury history seems to be finally catching up with him. The Blackhawks have a bit of a history acquiring seemingly past-their-prime forwards (hello there, Michal Handzus) and turning them into decent depth players. Perhaps they can do the same with Bouchard.

As for the Islanders, this move could signal the start of their selling off some pending free agents leading up to next month’s trade deadline.
