Blackhawks Re-sign Bryan Bickell.

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a four-year contract with winger Bryan Bickell worth an average annual cap hit of $4 million

Bryan Bickell re-signs with Blackhawks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Having shed salary today by trading Dave Bolland and Michael Frolik during the draft, the Blackhawks wasted little time getting Bickell under contract.

Bickell had a breakout performance this season, especially in the playoffs, where he had 17 points in 23 games. Some have compared Bickell to former Oiler Fernando Pisani, who parlayed a strong 2006 playoff into a lucrative contract, only to fail to regain his playoff form over the course of this deal.

Bickell, however, is being seen by some experts as a late-blooming power forward rather than a playoff flash-in-the-pan. If the ‘Hawks hadn’t re-signed him, he would’ve received big money on the UFA market.

Time will tell, but Blackhawks management obviously believe he’s worth it.
