Blue Jackets Extend Prospal.

Prospal re-signs with the Blue Jackets.

Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson this morning announced the re-signing of forward Vinny Prospal to a one-year contract extension worth $2.5 million, with a  “no-trade” clause. It also contains what the Columbus Dispatch called “a gentlemen’s agreement” that Prospal, once his playing days are over, would return to the Blue Jackets organization in some capacity.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Considering all the bad news that has hung like a pall over the Blue Jackets this season, this is a welcome change.  And no, I don’t believe this is a “sign-and-trade”. Nice to see someone wants to stay with the Jackets beyond this season.

  1. I have always like Prospal and i am glad to see him get a decent pay day. This guys stats have been better than Nash over his career…. just saying….

  2. I remember his enthusiasm as a Duck back in 2003-2004 season, and he’s as classy as they come.

  3. And this is yet another in the long list of examples why Columbus is a terrible organization. If he didn’t have a no trade clause now then why not ship him off somewhere for some kind of an asset that can help you in the future. You could always have resigned him after July 1 ala the St Louis Blues with Doug Weight in 06 and Keith Tkachuk in 08. Now they resign him and give him a no trade. I have always believed the a hockey team could do well in Columbus but man get some people in that management that have even half a brain and they wouldn’t have done this.

  4. Very classy, especially since at every stop in his career you can tell Prospal is someone who cares, is a really good person at heart and tries 100% of the time. I really respect the “gentlemans agreement” that was put into the contract. Takes a very special person to do something like this and let’s face it, thats EXACTLY the type of person that the struggling Bluejackets need in their organization whether it is off or on the ice.
