Various sources report the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed winger Vaclav Prospal to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Good move by Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson to replace the injured Kristian Huselius. Prospal posted up good numbers last season following his return from knee surgery, and if he can stay healthy and continue that type of offensive production, should provide a good boost to the Jackets offense.

I guess that depends. Is this Prospal’s “on” year or his “off” year? The guy cycles like a yo-yo. I think last season was his “on” year (I’m too lazy to check), so the Blue Jackets are in trouble.

Even still, the money is about right and its on a one year deal. Its a very reasonable gamble and if it pays off with a strong year for Prospal, will far outweigh the possible negatives. If not, they can always move him at the deadline to someone who is making a run and hopes he can provide secondary scoring.
