Blues Sign Morrow.

ESPN/TSN analyst Pierre LeBrun reports the St. Louis Blues have signed free agent left winger Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The deal is also reportedly worth $1.5 million, down significantly from the $4.1 million he earned last season, but reflective of Morrow’s true value at this stage in his career. It also fit neatly into the Blues payroll, as they had reportedly had $1.8 million in cap space before signing him.

Injuries have caught up with Morrow and hampered his game, but he still has value as a third line winger, while his experience and leadership should prove valuable for a young Blues team trying to take the big step toward Stanley Cup contention.

  1. I would have taken him back (Penguins) for $1.5M. I guess we now know why he had not signed anywhere…. he was trying to find ANYONE to pay even half what he got last year. Stinks that his stock fell that far.

    • I think the $1.5 contract is fair enough based on Morrow’s injury history. I’m sure his price point was discounted based on St. Louis’ projection to be in the playoffs. Not sure how much playing time he’ll get, but he’ll provide leadership. I still would have liked Buffalo to take a look at him as I think he would have been a great mentor and leader for our youngsters – but on the other hand, I get to thinking…..who do you cut or send down?

  2. Blues are just looking like a scary team this year and I love this pick up. Let’s take a shot at what people are facing.

    Steen – Backes – Stewart
    Tarasenko – Berglund – Oshie
    Morrow – Roy – Paajarvi
    Sabotka – LaPeirre – Schwartz
    Reaves/Porter spares

    Peitrangelo – Bouwmeester
    Shattenkirk – Jackman
    Polak – Leopold

    Halak – Elliot

This is without D Hakanppa, G Jake Allen, or forwards Andronov, Cracknell, or Jaskin cracking the line up.
