Another setback for Andrei Markov.

LE JOURNAL DE MONTREAL: Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov suffered another setback in his ongoing recovery from a knee injury, as he’ll be undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his surgically repaired right knee to clear up some lingering debris.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Another tough break for Markov, who’s been working hard on his comeback. Canadiens fans are getting frustrated, wondering if he’ll ever return to action this season, or at all. Rest assured, Habs fans, Markov is far more frustrated than you.

OTTAWA SUN: Don Brennan lists five reasons the Senators can make the playoffs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If they continue to play over the course of the season as they have in recent weeks, I certainly wouldn’t rule out the possibility of the Senators as playoff contenders. They’ve been among the pleasant surprises of the season so far.

TORONTO SUN: The return of James Reimer couldn’t end the Maple Leafs losing streak against the Boston Bruins this season, as the defending Cup champs once again downed the Leafs, this time by a score of 4-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hockey Night in Canada analyst Mike Milbury said it best following that game: The Bruins have the Leafs number.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 5-3.

EDMONTON SUN: Terry Jones believes as long as the Oilers keep giving 10-12 points a season to the Flames, they will continue to struggle to make the playoffs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As always, a very entertaining tilt between these two rivals, and as Jones noted, the Flames have owned the Oilers of late, winning 16 of the last 18 meeting between the two, including the last six in a row.

WINNIPEG SUN: The Jets are hoping to have all their currently injured players back in the lineup by the end of December, including top defenseman Tobias Enstrom, who’s been out since October 31.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Tony Gallagher on how the Canucks will be praying their defense can stay healthy this season.

  1. The Bruins likely do have the Leafs number but I also think Wilson is getting out coached by Julien as well

  2. FORGET ABOUT IT THE BRUINS ARE FOR REAL THIS YEAR THERE RECORD SAYS IT ALL 13-0-1 BUT DON,T FORGET THE LEAFS HAVE BEEN WINNING WITH 2 BACK UP GOALIES I THINK THE LEAFS WILL MAKE IT THESE YEAR,I HAVE WATCHED MANY TEAMS LIKE BOSTON KICK THE CRAP OUT OF TEAMS BUT COME TO THE PLAY-OFFS START TO CHOKE ITS STILL A LONG SEASON ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN..GO LEAFS GO

  3. @Andy..I admire your optimism bud…but I do believe also that part of the problem is that Wilson is being out coached here by Julien as he appears to have no answer to Boston’s clogging of the neutral zone that prevents the Leafs from getting any speed going

  4. The Bruins are doing a number on the Leafs, like the Habs did a few seasons back to Boston. I believe the Canadiens won like 8 straight regular season meetings over two seasons or something like that, but Boston got it’s revenge in the playoffs. So, if the Leafs and Bruins meet in the Playoffs, they could get their revenge. Remember, nobody gave the Canadiens a snowball chance in hell to beat the Capitals in the 2010 playoffs.

  5. Spector,

Markov should have been able to rehabilitate that knee in far less time than it is taking. I think Markov is milking it for everything possible. He has signed a 3 year 17 million dollar contract and has not played in the last 2 YEARS. Brilliant move by Markov to con Pierre Gauthier into signing him not for one year but 3. There is obviously a weakness in that kne and I would not be surprised to hear Markov knew all along that it would be a miracle if he ever played again. Montreal fans have to face it Markov is not Sidney Crosby to work really hard to make a comeback. Markov is a typical Russian who has almost no personal pride.

The proof of all of this is in how information has come into the press regarding his “return”. Gauthier said he might be able to make it for training camp. Jacques Martin said they didn’t expect him for training camp at all. Gauthier and Martin said he would miss barely a couple of games, but he spends 4 weeks in Florida “rehabbing” (more like sleeping at the beach” He is supposed to make it back for the beginning of last week but here is the shocker, he hurts himself AGAIN doing nothing. If he wasn’t able to change directions at all, then he wasn’t even close to being able to return to action. I have bad 6 surgeries in my knee for the same thing as Markov (ACL, MCL and meniscus tear) and had a terrible doctor do the surgeries. This doctor hid his mistakes and continued to perform surgery on me, so much so I won a law suit against him in Canada which is tough to do. I know what it’s like to rehad a knee and I knew when I was close to a return to be able to predict it.

Either Markov is mentally afraid to play again or he is playing the press and the management of the Montreal Canadiens for 17 million dollars and nobody sees it.
