Canadian Corner – November 9, 2011.

In today’s roundup of notable NHL Canadian team news: The Canadiens can’t solve Nikolai Khabibulin…Daniel Alfredsson nearing return for Senators…Mason Raymond practicing with Canucks….Tim Connolly provides an update on his injury status…Flames need to work on PP at home…Jets fall to Sabres.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 28 shots as the Oilers, despite being outshot 29-13, defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-1.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: One reason for the Habs loss was their inability to get their power-play working, which has been a continual problem for them this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Canadiens PP woes aside, Khabibulin stole this one for the Oilers, continuing his outstanding performance this season.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson skated for a second straight day on Tuesday, leading to speculation he could return to their lineup as early as Frida against the Buffalo Sabres.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s good news for Alfredsson, who was recovering from a concussion suffered a couple of weeks ago. Even if he doesn’t return Friday, it appears he’ll be back soon.

Raymond practicing again with Canucks.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Mason Raymond is skating in practice with his Canucks teammates for the first time since fracturing a vertebrae in last spring’s Stanley Cup Final.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hopefully Raymond won’t suffer any lingering after-effects from that injury when he finally returns to action, which could be sometime in December.

TORONTO SUN: Tim Connolly spoke to the media yesterday regarding his latest “upper body injury”, saying he hopes to return soon to working out and skating again with his teammates. He said this injury wasn’t the same as the previous “upper body injury” which kept him out of the lineup for the opening weeks of the season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Leafs management knew they were getting damaged goods when they signed Connolly. Now they have to hope this latest injury will be his last for this season.

CALGARY HERALD: The Flames need to work on their power-play on home ice.

WINNIPEG SUN: The Jets blew four leads en route to a 6-5 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

  1. To me, Connolly is made of glass and Armstrong is never there anymore either. Reimer appears to have a concussion that nobody seems to want to admit to and Gus is a sieve who’s defencemen appear to take smoke breaks leaving him hung out to dry; assuming Gus doesn’t hang himself out to dry first ..I don’t know.. is it that time of the year again for the bagheads and the boo birds again

  2. Khabby was stellar, let’s not forget the awesome oilers pk either. They did score a goal went 6 for 6 and are 4th in the league. Facts.

  3. Oilersfan,
You must be really insecure about your oilers because your constantly defending them and most of the time is nothing negative said about them.. You just try to make them sound better than they are haha
