CALGARY SUN: Jarome Iginla said he doesn’t expect to be sidelined for long by recent back spasms which have kept him from participating in training camp.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It could, however, slow a player who is already known for being a slow starter.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty feels fortunate he was able to recuperate so well and quickly from last season’s neck and back injuries.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The question now is whether or not those injuries affected him psychologically and what impact it could have on his game.

VANCOUVER SUN: Todd Fedoruk, who’s attending Canucks training camp on a tryout, is grateful for the second chance he’s being given after overcoming addictions.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: All the best to Fedoruk, who’s had a rocky road in recent years.

TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs got off to a good start to the pre-season, with a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: reports the Senators experiment with Nikita Filatov on one of their top two lines began last night in their pre-season opener against Toronto.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: So far, so good, Filatov saw over 16 minutes of icetime and two assists in the Senators 4-2 loss to Toronto.

WINNIPEG SUN: Expects the Jets pre-season opener against Columbus tonight will be a loud affair.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers hope they have a blueline “diamond in the rough” in oft-traveled defenseman Kirill Tuluopov, a former Devils draft pick.
