Habs land checking line forward.

Various sources report the Montreal Canadiens have dealt minor league forward Brock Trotter and a second seventh round pick in 2012 to the Phoenix Coyotes for center/winger Petteri Nokelainen and minor league defenseman Garrett Stafford.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Nokelainen has bounced around a bit since making his NHL debut in 2005-06 with the NY Islanders, playing also with Boston and Anaheim before landing in Phoenix, with a stop last season in Finland. Don’t expect much offense from him, Habs fans, he’s a checking line forward. Stafford will be reporting to their AHL affiliate in Hamilton, while Trotter is likely headed to the Coyotes farm team. Remains to be seen what impact he’ll have on the Canadiens checking lines, but obviously they were looking for some experience there, having shipped Aaron Palushaj and Andreas Engqvist back to Hamilton. Is this move a sign of more to come for the Canadiens? Depends on how they perform over the next couple of weeks.

    Hello Spector,

As per RDS it’s a seventh round pick not 2nd round.

die hard habs fan…so they trade Trotter, who had 7 points in 5 games, for a 25 year old journeyman checker, and call up Blunden, who has 3 points in 5 games…why not just call up Trotter and at least give him the shot???
