The Montreal Canadiens have announced the re-signing of center David Desharnais to a four-year, $14 million contract extension.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: As per TVASports’s Louis Jean, “Desharnais will make $3.2 Million next year + $300 000 signing bonus. Following 3 years will be $3.5 Million per.”
It’s a significant bump from the $850K he’s making this season. Desharnais had a 60-point performance last season and was among the few bright spots in an otherwise miserable season for Les Canadiens. His numbers are down this season (on pace for 28 points in 48 games), but evidently Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin feels confident Desharnais will rebound over the next four years. If he does, it’ll be a worthwhile re-signing. As it stands now, it’s an affordable one for a Canadiens team which had limited cap space (roughly $11.8 million) to work with prior to his re-signing.
