Canadiens Re-sign Desharnais.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced the re-signing of center David Desharnais to a four-year, $14 million contract extension.

David Desharnais gets four-year extension.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As per TVASports’s Louis Jean, “Desharnais will make $3.2 Million next year + $300 000 signing bonus. Following 3 years will be $3.5 Million per.”

It’s a significant bump from the $850K he’s making this season. Desharnais had a 60-point performance last season and was among the few bright spots in an otherwise miserable season for Les Canadiens. His numbers are down this season (on pace for 28 points in 48 games), but evidently Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin feels confident Desharnais will rebound over the next four years. If he does, it’ll be a worthwhile re-signing. As it stands now, it’s an affordable one for a Canadiens team which had limited cap space (roughly $11.8 million) to work with prior to his re-signing.

  1. Little more then I would have liked.. But I cant really call it an overpayment either.

  2. Davey had a slow start but that line has been streaky this year. All in all. A second line 50-60pt center for 3.5 million isn’t too bad at all. Definitely tradeable, if needed. I think the Habs are gearing up for a big trade involving players from the Gio line.

    • From the media stuff I have heard MB is looking at the long game meaning no trades that mean giving big pieces, so I do not see any big trades for Mtl. As for DD, he has a grand total of 5game in the playoffs with 1 assist. I would have preferred to see what he can do in the playoffs before signing him. How will he hold up in a rough Bruins playoff game??? Still, as has been said affordable signing.

  3. mixed feelings …i like him but i am not sure what the urgency was….could have waited till after playoffs!!!
