Canadiens re-sign Gorges.

The Montreal Canadiens  have avoided salary arbitration with defenseman Josh Gorges, re-signing him to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Gorges will be eligible for UFA status next summer, and that’s got some Habs fan tonight questioning management’s decision to opt for a one-year extension, rather than multi-year. I daresay they’ll get to that before next July, depending on Gorges’ performance in the upcoming season, as that’ll determine salary and term.

  1. Your right Lyle, this does have me questioning management. Why does Markov, with two knee injuries immediately after each other and gets a three year deal. Gorges has had a wonky knee since junior and only now had to get surgery done and he gets a one year deal. But maybe this is being done in anticipation of a new CBA, as now Price, Subban, Eller, and Gorges will be up for new contracts at the same time. For Gorges, he will be an ufa, so now we can start the rumours of Gorges wanting out of Montreal…sigh…..

  2. Ugh… 1 year? Really? REALLY? Without having any insight into the discussions, I would have really preferred having him signed to a 3 year deal.

    Meh…
