Canadiens Sign Gilbert, Ducks Ink Stoner, Capitals Land Peters.

The Montreal Canadiens signed defenseman Tom Gilbert to a two-year, $5.6 million contract. The Anaheim Ducks sign defenseman Clayton Stoner to a four-year, $13 million contract, and the Washington Capitals have signed goaltending Justin Peters to a two-year, $1 million contract.

Canadiens sign Tom Gilbert.

Canadiens sign Tom Gilbert.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Gilbert could be a replacement for the traded Josh Gorges, but if so that won’t sit well with Habs fans. The Canadiens also re-signed Mike Weaver to a one-year, $1.75 million deal.

Stoner will likely replace Luca Sbisa, who was dealt to Vancouver in the Ryan Kesler deal.

Peters finally gets his chance to be a full-time NHL backup.

  1. Frankly, I liked the team Ducks had BEFORE the Kessler trade than I do now, they lost more to UFA than they gained and Spezza came a hell of a lot cheaper than Kessler did. Not good, not good at all.
