Capitals Acquire Dustin Penner

The Washington Capitals have acquired Dustin Penner from the Anaheim Ducks for a fourth round pick in 2014.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A surprising move by the Ducks, as Penner (who they signed as a UFA last summer) was enjoying a resurgence in Anaheim. His 32 points this season had him sixth in team scoring. His 6-5, 245 lb frame will provide the Capitals with a big-bodied forward who can generate traffic and scoring opportunities around an opponent’s net.

Consistency has always been an issue with Penner, so it’ll be interesting to see how well he fits in with the Capitals. This move is also something of a surprise for Washington, as it was believed their focus was on bolstering their defense.

  1. So I was surprised that Bruzgalov only fetched a 4th round pick, but Penner? Well done Mr Mcphee!

  2. Hmm…

Getzlaf – Perry – Vanek line anyone?

  3. I was thinking the same, or Moulson

  4. This is a straight cap move, right? More to come.

  5. Could the Habs not have traded for HIM instead of for D?
