Capitals fire Bruce Boudreau, hire Dale Hunter.

Dale Hunter new Capitals coach.

Various sources this morning report the Washington Capitals have fired Bruce Boudreau as head coach, replacing him with Dale Hunter.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Something had to give with the struggling Capitals, and to no one’s surprise, it’s a coaching change. Hunter, a former star with the Capitals, has several years of coaching experience in the OHL with the London Knights, which included winning the Memorial Cup in 2005. It’s expected he’ll bring in a no-nonsense approach to the Capitals, but what remains to be seen is how well he’ll work with team captain Alexander Ovechkin, whose performance has been in decline since last season, which many believe was due to being unable to see eye-to-eye with Boudreau over the direction of the team and the style of play.

  1. Just as it was true then as it still is today, almost always,if a coach can’t get along with the team’s franchise player, then the coach will almost always be the one shown the door and now Hunter is the guy who must find a way to keep Ovechkin happy otherwise he too could be shown the door.
