The Washington Capitals today announced the re-signing of RFA forward Troy Brouwer to a two year, $2.35 million per season contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Caps acquired Brouwer during the entry draft and are looking toward the two-way winger to provide experience and leadership as they launch another pursuit of the Stanley Cup. His new salary is a nice raise above the $1.025 he earned on his previous deal, though it does push the Capitals above the $64.3 million cap by over $1.8 million, and will increase the speculation the club could consider a trade to shed salary.

  1. RK says:

If shedding salary is case, why haven’t the Semin to Toronto rumours started yet?

  2. Eric says:

I doubt the Caps deal Semin within the Eastern Conference if they can avoid it. With their current crop of defensemen, including Orlov in the pipeline, I wonder if they’re more likely to deal Mike Green? And speaking of Caps defensemen – Spector: is Hannan a UFA or is he under contract?

  3. RK says:

Eric, according to capgeek.com he is UFA

  4. Steve says:

Neither will be dealt. I suspect the cap issues will be resolved by either dealing Fehr or Fehr and Poti being placed on LTIR. Possibly, Poti retiring.
