Crosby set to sign new mega-deal.

Various sources report the Pittsburgh Penguins have announced team captain Sidney Crosby will re-sign a new, twelve-year, $104.4 million contract on July 1. The new deal  will take effect on July 1, 2013, and is expected to be worth an average annual cap hit of $8.7 million.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Yes, the new contract will be worth the same average annual salary as the current one, as well as the first two digits also similar to his jersey number of 87.  You can bet it will be heavily front-loaded, with the bulk of the dollars being paid out in the first 8-9 years of the deal. It also indicates Crosby’s willingness to accept less than market value to remain in Pittsburgh. Let’s be honest, folks, Crosby would’ve commanded considerably more had he become a UFA next summer. He took a lot less to remain a Penguin.

One Response to Crosby to re-sign with Penguins on July 1.

Big signing. That equals just under 8.7 per so its not terrible. While I don’t really care for Crosby, he is a great player and I hope he plays this whole contract through.
