The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Marek Zidlicky to a one-year contract. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

 SPECTOR’S NOTE: Given the lack of quality puck-moving defensemen in this summer’s UFA market, the Devils probably decided it was better the devil they knew than the one they didn’t.

Zidlicky led all Devils defensemen in scoring last season with 19 points, fitting in well after joining the Devils late in the 2011-12 season. 

Zidlickly’s coming off a three-year, $12 million contract, and only have just over $7.1 million in cap space with Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson to re-sign. I’ll be surprised if he gets $4 million this time around.
