The New Jersey Devils have reacquired forward Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a seventh round pick in 2013 and a fourth-round pick in 2014.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ponikarovsky was part of the Devils roster during their run to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, but signed a one-year deal worth $1.8 million. In twelve games with the Jets, he managed only 2 goals. The Jets acquired left wing Eric Tangradi earlier in the day from the Pittsburgh Penguins, so the assumption is he’ll be replacing Ponikarovsky. In 33 games with the Devils last season, he collected 18 points, plus 9 points in 24 playoff games. They obviously missed Ponikarovsky’s size and experience, and he should fit in well again with the Devils.
