The New Jersey Devils have announced the signing of winger Damien Brunner to a multi-year contract. Details to follow.

Damien Brunner inks multi-year deal with the Devils.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Brunner was among the few notable forwards remaining in this summer’s unrestricted free agent market, earning his way onto the Devils via a training camp tryout.

He has a good shot and solid offensive instincts, but he did struggle at times last season with the Red Wings, which was his first taste of NHL hockey.

After the Devils inked slower-footed wingers like Ryane Clowe, Michael Ryder and Jaromir Jagr this summer, Brunner’s speed should provide a welcome boost to their offense.

**UPDATE** The terms of the deal are two years, $5 million, for a cap hit of $2.5 million per season. If memory serves, that’s what his asking price was this summer.

I thought he had been looking for a multi-year contract at $3.5M, and that the Wings had offered him $2.5 before signing Alfie and Weiss.
