The Calgary Flames have signed Deryk Engelland to a three-year deal worth $2.9 million per season.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Flames add more truculence with Engelland, a physical defenseman who spent his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s a versatile player who can play on the wing as well as the blueline. He’ll provide veteran grit to the young Flames. Stephen Whyno of Canadian Press reports he’s getting $2.9 million per season. That’s quite a bit for a third-pairing defenseman.
