Flyers GM: No Offer for Stamkos.

CSNPHILLY.COM: Tim Panaccio reports Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said his team has explored the option of submitting an offer sheet to Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos, and decided against it. Part of the reason against doing so was that it could’ve cost between $8.5-$12 million per season, which would’ve taken up a large percentage of their salary cap, as well as created difficulty in clearing sufficient cap space.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: And with that, the nearly week-long speculation about the Flyers pursuing Stamkos is over. The Flyers will pursue depth at center on July 1st, but not expensive talent like Stamkos and Brad Richards. Lightning GM Steve Yzerman has apparently let it be known around the league his club will match any offer for Stamkos, even a league maximum worth over $12 million per season.

  1. I don’t get why the masses think the Flyers needed a first-line center. I guess Danny “The Fistpump” Briere isn’t good enough for first-line duty anymore?

  2. I’m still trying to fathom why people continue to think Stamkos won’t be with TB after tomorrow.

  3. I bet u he’s not.

  4. bet me what? thats he not a rfa any longer. Yah you win cause he’ll resign with the lightning

  5. LMAO Mike.

  6. I don’t see why Stamkos would leave TB, but I really want to see a team offer him a really big offer sheet. You either get Stamkos or you tie up TB.

  7. Stamkos is coming to the Rangers haha jj. He’ll resign with Tampa.

  8. Yzerman is only saying that to ward off other GM’s. IF Yzerman matches 12 million, he will NOT be able to resign later unless Stamkos wants to. Instead, he will be forced to pay 12 million every year he wants to keep Stamkos in TBay. Screwing him and the bolts royaly.
