SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s been a busy day for Flyers GM Ron Hextall, who earlier today dealt Scott Hartnell to Columbus for R.J. Umberger. The deal breaks down as $2.25 million for 2014-15 and $2.75 million for 2015-16. It’s a fair bridge contract for Schenn, who was coming off his entry-level deal and had no arbitration rights. This recent season was Schenn’s best to date, reaching the 20-goal and 40-point marks for the first time in his career.

This signing leaves the Flyers with only $1.8 million in cap space. They must find a true top-two defenseman, re-sign Jason Akeson and Tye McGinn, plus re-sign or replace Ray Emery. They’ll get some cap relief by placing Chris Pronger on LTIR but that’s only when the season begins. Speculation abound Hextall’s not done making moves.
