Hannan signs with Flames.

KUKLA’S KORNER: reports the Calgary Flames have announced the signing of veteran free agent defenseman Scott Hannan.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Terms weren’t disclosed, but it’s believed to be a one-year deal worth $1 million. Figure him to be penciled in as the replacement this season for the departed Robyn Regehr. It’s a considerable pay cut from the $4.5 million per season cap hit of his last contract, but at this stage it’s not unexpected. Alex Tanguay signed with the Flames for a bargain basement deal and played well enough to earn a significant raise, so obviously if Hannan can play well, his new contract after 2011-12 could be worth more.

  1. A new system and a new start for Scotty ws desperately needed as he seemed lost in Colorado.

I doubt that Calgary is the right place for him but at $1 Million (instead of $4 Million which he was never worth) and only a 1 year deal it is the right deal for the moment.

If he doesn’t play well this season he will have a very hard time staying in the NHL after this season.
