TSN reports the Edmonton Oilers have traded right wing Ales Hemsky to the Ottawa Senators for a third round pick in 2015 and a fifth round pick in 2014.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hemsky’s been in the rumor mill for years but this season he finally moves. He was linked to the Senators for some time this season. The Senators have been in the market for a top-six winger for weeks.
When healthy, Hemsky is a skilled playmaker who could address the Senators need for scoring depth on the right side. He’s an unrestricted free agent this summer, but if he plays well and helps the Sens make the playoffs, they could consider re-signing him before July.
The Oilers are reportedly retaining half of Hemsky’s remaining salary for the rest of this season. He’s earning $5 million this season.
