Will the Maple Leafs new owners allow a second team in Toronto?…The Kings failure to date to achieve expectations…A plea to Avalanche management…Preview of tonight’s Rangers-Sabres game…The well-traveled Tim Thomas…Christmas gift ideas for Canucks fans…How to become an NHL Ironman.

PUCK DADDY: Greg Wyshynski wonders if the deep-pocketed new ownership of the Toronto Maple Leafs would allow a second NHL franchise to exist in Toronto.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s a good question. It’s been believed for decades the Leafs various owners would nix the idea of any second team encroaching in their backyard, but the Leafs new ownership, a partnership of two Canadian cable giants, might have different opinions about it. Teams apparently don’t have any “veto” over the destinations of relocated or expansion franchises, but the Leafs, the richest team in the league, would wield considerable influence. If the new ownership of MLSE see a second Toronto franchise as a threat to their revenue, then no, I don’t believe we’d see a second team there, but if they “think outside the box” on this, it’s possible. Either way, I don’t expect this will come up as an issue anytime soon.

JEWELS FROM THE CROWN: “Quisp” on the reasons why the LA Kings have failed to meet expectations, suggesting it could take a coaching change to improve the situation.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Unless the Kings take a prolonged plummet in the standings, I doubt we’ll see a coaching change this season. GM Dean Lombardi’s recent comments on his team’s performance suggests he’ll be patient with the roster, and he doesn’t seem to be hinting toward any shake-ups behind the bench.

MILE HIGH HOCKEY: A plea to the Avalanche front office to shake up their struggling team, suggesting a coaching change may be needed.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not the first time we’ve heard this plea, from fans, bloggers and pundits who follow the Avs. Won’t be the last, I’m sure, until the Avs actually do something.

HOWLINGS.NET:Mitch Beck previews tonight’s NY Rangers-Buffalo Sabres game.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Mitch regularly covers the Rangers farm team. Fans of the Blueshirts should check out his work for the latest happenings with their farm team.

Tim Thomas had no easy road to NHL stardom.

DIRTY DANGLE: Looks at the well-traveled career of Bruins superstar goalie Tim Thomas.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: One reason why Thomas is beloved in Boston and respected around the league by fans, bloggers and pundits alike is the long road it took him to reach the NHL, and then to achieve stardom once he made it. He’s this generation’s Johnny Bower

THE CANUCK WAY: Ten Christmas gifts for the Canucks fan in your life.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This isn’t a joke list. It’s serious gift suggestions for Canucks fans.

DOWN GOES BROWN:  How to be an NHL Ironman. One way: “DO NOT: Worry about collisions that carry absolutely no physical risk, such as running Ryan Miller in front of the entire Sabres roster.”
