Concern over Colby Armstrong’s reaction to his concussion…A lack of role models for Rick Nash?…The NY Islanders in five years time…Why is John Tavares overlooked among NHL stars?…Who might be dealt or cut loose by the Oilers…A legal look at the Mike Milbury assault case…the NHL’s “Naughty and Nice” list…Looking back through a comic glass at this season’s biggest trades.

PUCK DADDY: Harrison Mooney on why Colby Armstrong hid his concussion from the Maple Leafs, and why he shouldn’t have done that.

THE DARK BLUE JACKET: Prior to Rick Nash’s ascendancy to the captaincy, he probably didn’t have the best role models.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Mario Lemieux didn’t either during his early years in Pittsburgh. Then he played with real leaders like Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier with Team Canada in the memorable 1987 Canada Cup, and credited that experience with teaching him what it took to win. Nash gained similar experience with Canada’s Olympic gold medal-winning men’s hockey team in 2010 in Vancouver, playing with leaders like Crosby, Iginla and Niedermayer. Whether or not he gained the same knowledge remains to be seen.

THE HOCKEY WRITERS: A look ahead to what the NY Islanders could look like in five years time.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Why do I have a sneaking suspicion they’ll be the same as they were this season? Or five seasons ago?

Tavares overlooked?

THE GOOD POINT: Jeff Blay on why NY Islanders star John Tavares has been overlooked among the current hierarchy of NHL stars.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not to belittle the Islanders, but it’s the team he’s been playing for that explains why he’s not getting much mention.

LOWETIDE: A look at potential Oilers keepers and trade bait.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’ll be very surprised if a healthy Ales Hemsky is still with the team after the February trade deadline.4

OFFSIDE: A SPORTS LAW BLOG: Eric Macramalla takes a legal look at Mike Milbury’s assault case. No, he’s not playing this for laughs, or asking the punch line question, “Did Milbury use a shoe?” Eric’s a lawyer, and considers the potential punishment Milbury could face.

BACKHAND SHELF: Justin Bourne’s NHL “Naughty and Nice” list. Try to guess which lists Alexander Ovechkin and Teemu Selanne are on!

DOWN GOES BROWN: presents, “Let’s make a deal: A look back at this season’s biggest trades”. Warning: consuming beverages will reading this could result in said beverage coming out your nose!

Given Milbury’s penchant for being a loose cannon, I’m not buying into the fact that he only “broke up a skirmish”

  2. tuxedoTshirt says:

I’ll be very surprised if Hemsky is healthy at that point in the season.

Milbury: Yeah I thought only “Thelma and Louise” types needed protection out there. What a classless piece of garbage that old Bruin is…..please don’t let him back on TV.
