Hockey Blog Beat – October 10, 2011.

In today’s Canadian Turkey Day medley of notable posts from the NHL blogosphere: Canadians endless love for Coach’s Corner…J.P. Dumont might be heading to Europe…Bobby Butler rides the pine in Ottawa…A cool Hockey Digest cover from 1979…Absurd Goalie Monday…Beware of prankster Leafs fans!

BERGER BYTES: Howard Berger explains why Coach’s Corner has not only survived for decades but remains beloved by Canadian hockey fans.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: “The Ron and Don Show” has its detractors, and I know a number of hockey fans who detest it, but they remain in the minority. Coach’s Corner will remain on the air until Cherry decides he can’t do it anymore.

Bound for Europe?

FANG FINGER: claims a “good friend of J.P. Dumont” said a Swiss team which Dumont played for during the NHL lockout (believed to be Bern in the Swiss-A League) has contacted him about playing for them this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’m not about to give this rumor credence, but I will say that it wouldn’t surprise me if Dumont decided to play overseas if he doesn’t soon get any offers from NHL teams.

SILVER SEVEN: explains why promising Senators forward Bobby Butler started this season on the fourth line in the Senators opening game of the season and was a healthy scratch in their second game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Spoiler alert: Butler doesn’t play as hard in the defensive zone as he does in the offensive one.

GREATEST HOCKEY LEGENDS: has an cover of a 1979 Hockey Digest featuring Marcel Dionne.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Why do I note this? Because I bought that particular issue way back in 1979. Yes, I keep tellin’ you, I’m that old, kids!

THE STRANGEST ONE OF ALL: It’s Monday, and that means another chapter of Scotty Wazz’s “Absurd Goalie Monday”, this week featuring Bob Janecyk.

PENSION PLAN PUPPETS: shows us why Canadiens fans who are friends with Maple Leafs fans should always ensure they securely keep their doors locked whenever they’re not home.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I give it up to those merry pranksters for their creativity and ingenuity, but being a Habs fan myself, I’d be pissed if I came home and saw my den transformed into a Leafs shrine!
