Hockey Blog Beat – October 3, 2011.

In today’s compilation of notable posts from the NHL blogosphere: Wondering if the players are getting the message from Brendan Shanahan…A brief look at how much the Panthers lineup has changed from last season…A weary Avalanche fan looks at his team’s upcoming season…What realignment could mean for the Canucks…An opinion of the salary cap floor and the occurrence of fights in important games…And it’s Absurd Goalie Monday!

EYES ON THE PRIZE: Kevin van Steendelaar wonders if NHL players are getting the message from league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on blindside hits and head shots.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: They’d better, because if Shanahan keeps suspending players as often in the regular season as he did in preseason, there’s gonna be a lot of players on the sidelines. It’ll take time, but if Shanahan is allowed to continue handing out stiff punishments for those infractions, the message will eventually sink in.

LITTER BOX CATS: Donny Rivette noted the number of players no longer with the Panthers who were there for their season finale in April.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ten players, including Tomas Vokoun, Sergei Samsonov, Marty Reasoner and Niclas Bergfors, are now playing elsewhere.

MILE HIGH HOCKEY: “Mike @ MHH” lays bare the “weary soul of an Avalanche fan” in his examination of the upcoming season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He’s at least bending toward optimism. That’s a promising sign.

NUCKS MISCONDUCT: “missy” examines several possible scenarios for the Canucks when the league goes through divisional realignment next season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Well, there’s one certainty: the Canucks won’t be moved to the Eastern Conference.

MC79HOCKEY.COM: Tyler Dellow offers up his opinion of the salary cap floor (he’s for it), plus an in-depth examination of the occurrence of fighting majors in important regular season games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not to spoil the ending, but it turns out fights happens about as frequently in those games as during playoff games.

THE STRANGEST ONE OF ALL: FOHS host Scotty Wazz presents another installment of “Absurd Goalie Monday”: Daryl “Razor” Reaugh.

 “The Razor’s Edge”.
