Hockey Blog Beat – Tuesday, September 13, 2011.

The latest posts from the hockey blogosphere which caught my eye. In today’s edition: A breakdown of the Devils response to NY Post report on their finances…Analyzing the Rangers choice of Ryan Callahan as team captain…The latest in the Dallas Stars ownership saga…The Blue Jackets new confidence as an organization…Another lesson in how to speak Lombardi…A humorous look at NHL 12…Ovechkin gets “Keslurked”.

IN LOU WE TRUST: John Fischer looks at the response of the New Jersey Devils to a recent report from the NY Post claiming the team was on the verge of bankruptcy, in part because of a supposed missed $100 million loan payment on September 1st, offering up a detailed analysis.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: We’re not going to know for certain the full details of the efforts of current primary owner Jeff Vanderbeek to find new investors to take over the shares of former investor Ray Chamber, but as Fischer says, unless the club starts dumping players or jacking up prices to attend games sky high, Devils fans probably shouldn’t stress out about this.

BLUESHIRT BANTER: Joe Fortunato analyses what Ryan Callahan was the right choice to become the Rangers new captain. The most important reason? The future.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: So many reasons why it’s a good choice. I’ve yet to hear a negative word about this move.

DEFENDING BIG D: Erin Bolen on the latest news regarding what appears to be the eventual sale of the Dallas Stars to businessman Tom Gaglardi.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Barring an unforeseen difficulty, the sale of the Stars to Gaglardi is expected to be complete by no later than Christmas, which would be fitting for the team and its fans. They’ve been in need of new, stable ownership for the past two years.

THE CANNON: Matt Wagner noted a new confidence among Blue Jackets front office officials, including GM Scott Howson, in the team’s recent presser.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Adding a true first line scorer like Jeff Carter in the off-season will do that.

JEWELS FROM THE CROWN: offers up the latest in “Speaking Lombardi”. In today’s lesson, the word “finality” and how it applies to the Kings negotiations with Drew Doughty.

DOWN GOES BROWN: offers up a review of “NHL 12″ in its own inimitable manner.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Avoid eating or drinking when reading this to avoid inadvertent choking, spraying of food or beverage from the mouth onto your screen, or the bringing up of liquid through your nose.

PASS IT TO BULIS: reports Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin became the latest player to become “Keslurked”.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Beware, NHL! Ryan Kesler has moved his “photobombing” from his Canucks teammates to other players! No one is safe!
