The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed defenseman Ron Hainsey to a three-year contract. Hainsey was eligible for UFA status in July.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hainsey will earn $3 million for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and $2.5 million in 2016-17.

The 33-year-old earned that contract. Though Hainsey’s not as effective a puck-moving defenseman anymore, he remains a solid defensive blueliner. He averaged over 21 minutes of ice time per game this season, was second in blocked shots and even-strength ice time and third in short-handed ice time.

  1. Gui says:

Atlanta overpaid him for his services and ability, but as long as Canes need vet leadership on the blue line, they could fare worse

I would have to agree Atlanta overpaid for him. He’ll be useless there, they don’t even have a team anymore ! :-P

Its not a bad deal for him what he brings. I completely forgot he still played in the NHL though. lol
