The Carolina Hurricanes have dealt forward Jussi Jokinen to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional draft pick. The Hurricanes are also picking up part of Jokinen’s salary.

Jokinen dealt to Penguins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Though Jokinen is obviously no real replacement for the injured Sidney Crosby, he will provide some offensive depth for the Penguins until Crosby gets back. Jokinen’s numbers are way down this season and that isn’t just because of the lockout, but the anticipation is he could be rejuvenated playing on a deeper Penguins team. Though not a swift skater, he’s a skilled puckhandler. He has one season left on his contract at $3 million, which why no one claimed him off waivers a week ago, which explains in part why the Hurricanes had to absorb part of his salary to move him.

The Penguins have several great players and will look to balance skill and depth in the offseason.
