The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Jamie McBain to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenseman Andrej Sekera.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Hurricanes were in the market for a top-four defenseman, and appear to have addressed this with Sekera. He’s not a physical blueliner but is a good puck-mover who can play big minutes. That being said, the Hurricanes supposedly were seeking a shutdown blueliner, as they apparently had too many puckmovers and not enough size and grit on their defense.

McBain was once considered a offensive blueliner with upside, but his stock has recently declined. He could benefit from a fresh start in Buffalo. He has one-year at $1.9 million left on his contract, while Sekera has two more seasons at a cap hit of $2.75 million, so this frees up some extra cap room for the Sabres.
