Islanders Acquire Visnovsky.

Islanders trade for Visnovsky.

The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky from the Anaheim Ducks for a second round pick in 2013.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This move addresses two issues, a need for experienced depth at defense, and eats up cap space thus helping the Isles reach the cap floor, as Visnovsky’s cap hit is $5.6 million, but his actual salary is $3 million. Good, short-term pick up for the Islanders.

  1. Personally think that is a steal of a deal.

  2. Wish it would have been Paul Martin going to NY instead.

  3. Reality could be that NYI traded 2rd pick for nothing… Visnovsky’s statement for Slovak press after trade: “I’ll be honest, hockey is not the first priority for me anymore. I look at life differently. Death of Palo Demitra changed me, I appreciate more time with family and kids. It can be felt on the ice. I cannot say that I play bad but I’m not as much effective anymore. I have to find a spark. I have a contract for another year. I will see whether I’ll have a will to continue playing or not. I will decide during the summer.”
