The New York Islanders announced the re-signing of winger Josh Bailey to a five-year, $16.5 million contract.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bailey’s signing is in line with the Islanders recent tradition of re-signing their young players to lengthy contract extensions. His new deal will be worth an average cap hit of $3.3 million, a significant raise over the $1.050 million per season of his recent two-year contract.
Only 23, Bailey has become a key member of the Islanders youth corps. He’s a sound two-way forward who can also play every forward position, making him invaluable when injuries strike the Isles lineup. He has a decent scoring touch but is best suited to checking line duty.
