TSN’s Darren Dreger reports the Winnipeg Jets have signed former Flames center Olli Jokinen to a two-year, $9 million contract, worth a cap hit of $4.5 million per season.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Jets needed experienced depth at center, especially on their scoring lines, and they get it with Jokinen, who is coming off a 23-goal, 61-point performance with the Flames last season. It’s also a nice pay raise for Jokinen, who made $3 million per on his last contract. Jokinen does come with a reputation for streaky play, and late last season, when the Flames were desperately battling for a playoff berth, his character and durability were called into question by some in the Calgary media. This could be a good opportunity for Jokinen to silence his critics, joining a Jets team which has talented, younger wingers like Evander Kane, Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd
