Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports the Kings have traded the fifth round pick they acquired from the New Jersey Devils earlier this week to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Keaton Ellerby.

Ellerby traded to Kings.

Ellerby traded to Kings.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ellerby, the Panthers first round pick (1oth overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, struggled over the last two season to earn a regular spot on the Panthers defense corps. The Kings have had issues with blueline depth this season, especially with Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene sidelined. This could give Ellerby a second chance at establishing himself as a regular NHL defenseman.

It will be interesting to see which of Ellerby or Loki have the bigger Impact on their new teams. Watched Loki play for the spits and I think he might surprise a few people if he can crack a top six spot in jersey.

Loki is too small. He has some skill but lacks finish in the NHL. He’s not a player that goes to the dirty areas to score.
