SPECTOR’S NOTE: A recent report out of Russia claimed the two sides were closing in on a deal, so it’s not surprising this got done as quickly as it did.  At an average annual cap hit of $4.17 million per season, it’s comparable to the average salary received by Nashville Predators blueliner Roman Josi, who last week signed a seven year, $28 million deal.

It’s a fair contract for Voynov, who emerged from the shadow of teammate Drew Doughty this season, as well as a significant raise about the $800K per season he earned on his recent contract.

The Kings now have around $7.6 million in remaining cap space to invest in Kyle Clifford, Trevor Lewis, Jordan Nolan, Dustin Penner, Alec Martinez, Keaton Ellerby, Jake Muzzin and Rob Scuderi. Most of these will be affordable re-signings, but there might not be enough to re-sign them all.
