Latest Maple Leafs, Oilers, Canucks and Flames News – August 8, 2012.

Joffrey Lupul skating for first time since his shoulder injury, speculation over Jordan Eberle’s point production this coming season, the Canucks reportedly linked to Cristobal Huet, and Flames prospect Michael Ferland faces assault chargers.

TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul is skating for the first time since his shoulder injury five months ago, and is looking forward to the anticipated start of training camp on September 15.

Lupul looking forward to upcoming season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Leafs will need a healthy Lupul if they hope to make the playoffs this season.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples wonders if the point production of Oilers forward Jordan Eberle might drop this coming season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If it does, they’ll need Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and rookie Nail Yakupov to pick up the slack.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: It’s been reported the Canucks might have interest in goalie Cristobal Huet, but his agent claims he hasn’t had specific discussion with the Canucks, saying it was “just in general identifying teams that may or may not be in a position to look for goaltending, Vancouver being one of them. It’s depending on what happens with (Roberto) Luongo.”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’ll have more on Huet later this morning in my “Rumors” section.

CALGARY HERALD: Flames prospect Michael Ferland has been charged with assault and aggravated assault stemming from a bar fight in Cochrane, Alberta last week. Ferland claims he’s innocent and his lawyer said they’re conducting their own investigation.
