The Oilers pin their blueline hopes upon Ryan Whitney again, Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf engaged to Elisha Cuthbert, and the Senators prepare their season ticket holders for the worst.

Oilers hope Whitney will stay healthy this season.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jonathan Willis reports the Oilers will once again bet heavily on defenseman Ryan Whitney to solidify the blueline.  Whitney has been hampered by a lengthy injury history.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A healthy Whitney could certainly improve the Oilers in terms of offensive production from the blueline, provided he can finally put his injury woes behind him.

TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf proposed to long-time girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert during a family dinner at a Prince Edward Island lobster restaurant over the weekend.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Congratulations to Phaneuf and Cuthbert on their engagement, and if you’re even in PEI, hockey fans, check out New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. I’ve only eaten there a couple of times, but those lobster suppers are fantastic.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: The Senators are preparing their season ticket holders for a possible NHL lockout.

You’d figure that be one good thing about phaneuf on your team is elisha would be at the games but she doesn’t even want to watch
